A BIC is a 4-letter bank code, 2-letter country code and 2-character location code, plus an optional 3-character branch code. Paste one to check each position holds allowed characters.
Only the ISO 9362 format is checked, not whether a bank holds the code.

Can I add XXX to an 8-character code?
Yes. By convention a trailing XXX means head office, the same place as the 8-character code. The tool classifies by length only, so it shows "includes branch code".
